The end of 2014 marked a change for Russell Simmons’ hip hop site, GlobalGrind.com. It was reported that Interactive One has acquired the popular site which was launched by Simmons and Navarrow Wright in 2007.
“I have been very proud of the care Interactive One has given my baby under our partnership to date, and am extremely excited to be contributing my points of view on trends and issues of utmost importance within the community, particularly social justice,” Simmons said. “GlobalGrind will continue to be a pop culture tastemaker and voice for the hip-hop generation.”
One of the largest digital companies targeting African Americans, Interactive One owns several digital properties including Hello Beautiful, The Urban Daily, Black Planet and News One. The company was launched in 2008 by Radio One.
The two companies partnered in 2013. Editor-in-chief Michael Skolnick is expected to stay on in the same role.
